Biography

Battle Not With Monsters is a high energy duet out of Durham, NC performing modern, alternative, acoustic folk rock. Singer-songwriters Patrick Blackburn and Philip Hollingsworth have been collaborating musically for over ten years. Blackburn’s sullen, emotional vocal style is complimented by the raw, high energy vocals of Hollingsworth as the duo performs songs that continually focus on providing meaningful lyrics that express the creative and recreative nature of artistic expression.

Battle Not With Monsters released their first album in May, 2010.

Band Members:

Patrick Blackburn

Blackburn brings an eclectic background to Battle Not With Monsters, having studied music education and performance at The University of North Carolina. He currently teaches the only elementary concert band in Durham, NC at W.G. Pearson GT Magnet Elementary School. He has written curriculum for music classes, including “A Brief History of Pop Music” and “Meet The Beatles”. Blackburn's major musical influences are John Lennon, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, and Sunny Day Real Estate.

Philip Hollingsworth

Hollingsworth is a graduate of Elon University, and recently taught middle school Spanish in Durham. He is currently a graduate student at The University of North Carolina studying Hispanic literature. Hollingsworth brings an intense background of studying rock music, and has been heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin, The Who, MC5, and Neil Young.
